The three of them walked to school.

As they walked, Akane practiced the first dance steps that Sachiko taught her. Sachiko was eating another rice ball and Kazunari was humming the tune he played in the piano.

"One, two, three, four...and one, two, three, turn!" Akane counted as she awkwardly tried to dance ballet.
"You know Kazu-kun, I really like that piece you made." said Sachiko. "It reminds me of something but I can't quite put my finger on it."
"Arigatou!" Kazunari smiled proudly.
"But don't you have any words for that, Kazu?" Akane said as she did an arabesque--or rather, it should be an arabesque.
"Mm...I haven't thought of it yet." he answered.

Sachiko handed him her half-eaten rice ball for him to finish. She then ran over to Akane.

"Stretch your arms like this, Akane-chan." Sachiko demonstrated. "Keep your chin up too."
"But I can't keep my balance!"
"Put your feet like this, then try to balance yourself before you lift one leg."

Kazunari chuckled as he watched them and munched on a rice ball.

We're going to be late because of what they're doing.

"Oi!" he called. Both girls turned to him. "We're going to be late."
"Eh?" Akane glanced at her wrist watch. "Wah!"

Akane grabbed her bag from the ground and yelled a "Let's run!" to her friends. Sachiko and Kazunari ran after her, laughing.

It was raining when Sachiko woke up the next morning. She looked at her bedside clock.

Just as she was about to climb out of bed, her cellphone rang. It was Akane.

"Moshi moshi. Sachiko desu."
"Sachi-chan, ohayou!"
"I don't think we can practice this morning. It's raining really hard outside."
"Sou ka... I don't think Okaasan will let me leave the house in this weather anyway."
"Hai. Can you call Kazu-kun and tell him?"
"That's fine, Akane. He's probably still asleep anyway." Sachiko said with a laugh.
"Yosh! I'll see you at school. We can practice twice as long later."
"Okay. Matta ne." she hung up.

Sachiko walked over to her window and watched the falling water on the glass. She wasn't very fond of rainy days. She hated getting her shoes wet and muddy. She also didn't like umbrellas that much.
She decided to get ready for school and pick up Kazunari. No matter how heavy the rain was, she always found a way to go to his house to wake him up. It was often amazing how she manages to arrive there completely dry each time.

"Sachiko-chan!" Kazunari's mom opened the door for her. The rain wasn't pouring so hard anymore.
"Ohayou!" said Sachiko.

As usual, Sachiko went up to Kazunari's room after greeting his parents. Ninomiya-san had prepared another packed lunch for Sachiko too. Sachiko often had two lunches when she went to school. This, of course, was shared with her friends and not just kept for herself.
Kazunari was already half-awake when Sachiko found him, but he was still in bed.

"Ohayo, Kazu-kun." she greeted. "Get up and get ready."
"I woke up early today, you know." he answered.
"I had a dream that you were going to pour a pitcher of water on me again so I woke up and got out of bed."

Sachiko laughed. "Suggoi! I influence you even in your sleep!"
Kazunari winced and hit her with a pillow.

"Hospitals have an influence on me, not you." he said. "You're so noisy in the morning."

Sachiko was going to say something back when she heard her cellphone ringing again. She took it out of her bag.

"Moshi moshi, Akane-chan?"
"Are you at Kazu-kun's house?"
"Is he awake already?"
"He just hit me with a pillow and said I'm noisy."
"Haha! Well, tell him to get ready. Oyaji-san says he'll take me to school today in his new car. We're going to pick you up okay?"
"Eh? Oyaji-san? Nobuyoshi-san?"
"Hai. Oyaji-san is here for the week so he wanted to spend as much time with me as possible."
"I see.. Okay! We'll be ready."

Nobuyoshi-san was a very busy man. He owned several pastry and coffee shops all over Japan called "Brilliant Red". Aside from that, he was always out of the country trying to open another Brilliant Red shop. Akane rarely sees him. Whenever he's home though, he asks Akane to stay with him so they could spend the day together. They would go on picnics or theme parks or watch movies.
Often her father would bake pastries for her at home. Akane always gave Kazunari and Sachiko pastries that her father makes. Sometimes she would even name the new pastries. If a pastry or a cake from their pastry shop has a weird name, that means it was most likely Akane's idea to call it as such.
"Suggoi...." Sachiko and Kazunari said at the same time. They were inside Nobuyoshi-san's new car. Akane was quick to take a picture of her two friends when as they said "suggoi".

"Wohh... Your car looks incredibly awesome Nobuyoshi-san..." Sachiko exclaimed as she touched the upholstery.
"You haven't changed a bit, Haera-san..." Nobuyoshi-san chuckled. "And who's this dashing young man?"
"Ninomiya Kazunari desu... Ohayou gozaimasu." said Kazunari.
"Hahaha.. Still polite as always, eh Ninomiya-san?"

Kazunari smiled and nodded. "Hai."
It was a noisy ride to school. Akane and her father sang songs as Akane happily took photos of random things she would see. They would all laugh at Nobuyoshi-san's jokes and celebrity impersonations. Akane laughed the loudest. She always laughed heartily whenever her father was around. There was always a different sparkle in her eyes when he was home.
Akane didn't always like her father and they didn't always agree, but she loved him very much.

"Thank you for driving us to school Nobuyoshi-san." Sachiko said.
"I like your car Nobuyoshi-san. Thank you for the ride." Kazunari agreed and bowed.
"It was my pleasure. I won't be here long so perhaps I'll drive all three of you to school again tomorrow."

Akane took a picture of her father before she said goodbye.

"Arigatou gozaimasu, oyaji-san." she said.
"Iiyo." he answered.

As the three of them walked to the school gate, Akane turned and ran back to her father.

"Otousan..." she said.
"Hmm? What is it Akane?"

Her arms reached inside the car window and hugged her father. She whispered an "Aishiteru, otousan..." to her father and ran back to Sachiko and Kazunari.
